Back to School Tips in Sanford NC

  1. Ergonomic Backpacks: Choose a backpack with padded straps and multiple compartments to distribute weight evenly. Encourage your child to wear both straps to avoid straining their back and shoulders. Also as an option roller bags are great to get the weight off their backs and avoid the “Turtle” posture.
  2. Healthy Homework Habits: Create a comfortable and ergonomic homework station. Ensure the chair and desk are at the right height to promote good posture. This should include being able to place both feet flat on the floor and have the legs at a 90 degree angle and shoulders in a relaxed position. Also encourage regular breaks to stretch and move around. Ideally every 30 minutes to an hour. Kids need to move and this will help with their focus too.
  3. Screen Time Management: Limit screen time and encourage outdoor activities. This will drastically help with their attention spans if they are moving. When using electronic devices, make sure screens are at eye level to prevent neck strain and what is called “Tech-Neck”
  4. These are all great habits for parents to adopt as well. Be present with kiddos and put the technology away this will prove to help the emotions of the kids as well as you.

Healthy Posture Tips

  1. Stand Tall: Encourage your child to stand tall with their shoulders back and head aligned with their spine. This helps prevent slouching and promotes a healthy posture.
  2. Sit Correctly: When sitting, both feet should be flat on the floor with knees at a right angle. Use a chair that supports the natural curve of the spine to avoid back pain.
  3. Stretch Regularly: Incorporate stretching exercises into your daily routine. Stretching helps improve flexibility, reduce muscle tension, and maintain a healthy posture.
